It was in a marvellous location so close to subway. I was surprised at nearby Carafe Coffee Roasters, they had some goodies, drinks.

We had the most very nice few days there. Everything was really good during 2 days, thoroughly enjoyed its good location just next door to the beach, which is nice, green and calm, the restaurant, and public transport. The staff was amazingly nice the entire time.

clean, quiet, large room with large bathroom. friendly staff. cable with good english channels. decent breakfast. inexpensive wifi. free gym across the street (although i didn't get a chance to use it). central location near metro.
furnishings and finishings a bit old. problems with the hot water, AC stuck on extremely cold.

We liked the fact that there was a separate shower and jacuzzi. The breakfast was good, and the room service was great (and decent for the price - pizza for two for r$18, enough picanha for two people for r$30 -- the picanha for two was way too much for the two of us, but the smaller portion was perfect for sharing!). The bed was comfortable enough.
The only thing we really disliked was the fact that our suite's key broke in the lock (as they use the old fashioned keys instead of the newer magnetic strip or rfid keys) while we were trying to open it for room service one night, and the manager tried to tell us to wait for hte next morning before they would let us out. The only reason we were let out that night was the guy from room service wanted to make sure we got our food and dragged him up. When the manager did come, he had a huge attitude about how inconveniencing it was that we had him unlock our room at that time of night.

Review for Mengo Palace Hotel
The hotel was appealing and clean, and I truly appreciated the free Wi-Fi. I really enjoyed the standard king room, which featured a large bed and a bidet. the location is quite good, only a 10-15 minute walk from Lewes Priory Park. This venue is situated in a safe area, conveniently close to the Museum of Tomorrow as well as the market and surrounding local attractions.

The very personal attention accorded to me and the way they took care of me.I was in Rio for 8 to attend a conference and due to all hotels being full, prior to my arrival I had only confirmed reservations for days 1-2 at Mengo Palace and days 4-5 at another hotel. Not only were they able to find me a hotel for the rest of the days but they were able to negotiate for me the same rate at that hotel, despite the rqte there being about 50% more than Mengo Palace. Not only that, they were very obliging whenever I asked their help or advise and their services were very personalized,I felt very safe and secure in their hands. They also kept my luggage for me for nealy 6 hours after I checked out.
Only few staff members spoke English, with the exception being the boss, who was fluent in her English. However, this is not a surprise because only a few people in Brazil spoke or understood English,so no surprises there.

Our stay at Mengo Palace was fantastic! We got great value for our money with spacious and clean rooms. The location was convenient, close to the beach and metro station. The staff treated us like family, always friendly and helpful.
The breakfast menu could be improved by better labeling the pastries to distinguish between sweet and savory options.

The hotel offers a good correlation between what you pay and what you get. It is NOT near a beach, but in a good neighbourhood. People are friendly and service orientated, the rooms are clean, the breakfast is upper brazilian standard.
One elevator of two was out of order. Long waiting times in the morning.

I booked a regular double room, for a really good price, and I got a suite with jacuzzi, so I couldn't complain at all! The place was really clean, the stuff was friendly and helpful. It is almost on the Flamengo beach and close to metro station, so you can easily reach any part of the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel!
The place is great, anyway, but, if they could have a swimming pool and 24h room service it would be perfect!
